Here’s how Dubai public transport is running on Prophet’s Birthday
Customer Happiness Centres closed, smart services available 24/7
DUBAI – Dubai residents and visitors are set for a three-day weekend as the UAE observes Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday today, Friday 5 September 2025.
Both public and private sector employees are on holiday, with government departments in Dubai closed for the day.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed public transport and service timings to help travellers plan their journeys.
Metro and tram
Dubai Metro services on both the Red and Green Lines are running from 5:00 am until 1:00 am the following day. The Dubai Tram will also operate extended hours, from 6:00 am to 1:00 am, ensuring smooth connectivity for commuters across the city.
Buses and marine
Dubai Bus services have adjusted schedules for the holiday, with details available through the S’hail app. Marine transport is also operating under special timings, which can be checked on the RTA website. These adjustments give residents flexibility whether travelling by land or water.
Parking and services
Public parking is free of charge today, except at multi-level car parks and Al Khail Gate Parking (N.365). Paid parking resumes on Saturday, 6 September. All RTA Customer Happiness Centres are closed, but smart centres at Umm Ramool, Deira, Al Barsha, Al Tawar and the RTA Head Office remain available 24/7. Vehicle testing centres are also closed today, reopening on Saturday.
Prophet’s Birthday
The occasion, which falls on the 12th of Rabi’ Al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar, marks Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH) and is one of the UAE’s official holidays based on the Hijri year. With the holiday coinciding with Friday, residents benefit from an extended three-day weekend, stretching until Sunday.
